Credit union donation fuels the expansion of the Golden Skatepark

The expansion of the Golden Skatepark has truly been a community effort, and it is a project Columbia Valley Credit Union is proud to support. CVCU contributed $50,000 towards the park.

This multi-year project started with a group of skate enthusiasts in November 2019. “We wanted local businesses and community members behind the project,” says Wade Duchman of the Golden Skateboard Association. “We approached CVCU as one of our first donors. We wanted the credit union’s donation to spark local interest and serve as the seed funding we needed to access various grants. In the end, the community donated $243,000 with CVCU giving $50,000 of that total. The credit union’s donation was instrumental to our success.”

The credit union is known in the community for supporting initiatives and causes both big and small. “A $50,000 donation was significant for the project and the credit union. It is one of the largest donations our credit union has ever made”, says Glen Ewan, Chair of the Board of Directors for CVCU. “The impact of the expanded skatepark will be long lasting. It is a free, multi-use park space that residents and visitors of all ages can enjoy for years to come.”

The expanded park encompasses an entire block in the town of Golden. The project broke ground in 2022 and opened in the fall of 2023. The new skatepark includes a beginner zone and a new bowl for more experienced skaters.
